Read and see how far anger can be a menace to the society... |
Ever since man lived, he has been fighting against natural forces militating against his existence. Humans are constantly evolving ways of dealing with such militating factors which may want to put our survival probability. We have always been wrestling against phenomenon like famine, drought, civil wars and natural disasters like flooding, earthquake, hurricane, and so on. Ailments like poliomyelitis, malaria, cancer and AIDS are not left out as well. Great thanks to scientific development in recent times. Despite man’s effort to put all those evils in check, even with the best technology available in all fields, these factors still find a way of dealing with the world’s population. Little wonder why the United Nations Organization has been setting up bodies like the WHO and the FAO to ensure that man lives happily on this planet earth. Landmark successes have been recorded by these bodies and thus saved the world’s population from the hands of unwholesome natural forces. Even though these natural forces are now under the control of man to some extent, more deaths are now being recorded amongst humans. What do I mean? Lately, we often read of headlines such as : “Man stabs wife to death”, “Man beats brother to death”, “High school student shot dead by classmate”, “Man commits suicide in his home”, and so on. The number of columns in our dailies now being dedicated to human crime stories is increasing on a regular basis. One cannot but wonder why man is now waging war against himself at such an alarming rate. Anger is an expression or strong feeling of displeasure over a particular situation. It is a reaction of the mind against an unwanted action taken. Every man has the tendency to become vexatious but with varying degree of temperance. Anger is often caused by social factors-disappointments at the place of work, marriage or other relationships, lots of bill to pay up, envy, controversies that later breed quarrels, bad use of words among others. Such disheartening situations do cause some sparks in the mind; consequently blowing off the mind. Mind explosions then result into unpleasant scenarios as those mentioned earlier,; but such not-too-good cases can be avoided if anger is properly handled or cautiously expressed. It is necessary that one identifies his level of temperament, knowing this, whether hot or cool tempered, will help the individual to determine his forbearance limit. A hot tempered person cannot withstand or abhor much anger as a cool tempered counterpart, and so caution must be taken by the hot tempered individual so that he does not over-express his displeasure. A cool tempered individual too must not try to tolerate beyond his limit, else all will accumulate and burst out beyond control one fateful day. That is why we sometimes find people we believed were very cool headed overreacting and getting into a mess; it is just because they had been trying to contain it all along, without addressing the issues really. It is after all not bad to get angry, it only accelerates the rate at which matters are resolved if done for the right reasons and handled rightly. Sometimes, walking away may be the best option to avoid being caught in the evil web of anger. It is not an act of cowardice as some people argue. Still in doubt of how possible anger can thin out the world’s population? Imagine a man with a wife, a kid and a cousin. If the man is so bad tempered, that he beats up his wife to coma over a rumour of infidelity, smack his kid to death for being stubborn and probably kills his cousin too over little family matters. At the end of time, if the man succeeds in murdering three people; then imagine if two of such a man exist, definitely, six lives will be lost, and thirty lives if ten of such individuals exist. Then imagine if 20% of the world’s population possess the same spirit, about 60% of the world’s population will be gone. Also imagine if the culprits are charged for manslaughter at the law court, pronounced guilty and sentenced to death; it therefore means 80% of the world’s population will be in their graves untimely. This may seem a mathematical fable but it does hols some facts. We all must rise to tackle this silent killer amongst us, so we do not lose our loved ones unnecessarily. The UNO may have to do more to set aside a special body that would enlighten and cater for people’s emotions so that precious human lives are not wasted over little brawl and trivial issues that could otherwise have been resolved amicably. |
