A poem written for a friend going through a break up. |
Blank eyes, filled with tears, and puffy red, Catch her breath, drape over me, the sobs she’d shed, I whisper things, just anything, to try to calm her down, She argues, helplessly, and shakes her frown. I love you, I’ll help you, I’m here for you, But trembling is the fear that there is nothing I can do, She shivers, collapses, all over me, I pat her back and hold her close as she can be. Take a breath; breathe it slow, she contemplates, Falls back again, broken down, she always shakes, People pass, question glances, worried stares, She lets it out, she’s at that point, she doesn’t care. We leave the room in single file, I follow her, She must escape, can’t remain, she’s very sure That happiness and smiling won’t be hers again, I tell her very soon her life will be before’s the same. A dark wood with trees that aren’t in silhouette, She collides so easily, and she forgets, The good things that hold her close to those she loves, The beauty in her heart that comes from up above. Hold tight, I’ll hold tight, with her I wait, Her mists will clear, her heart will heal, before too late, The loss will fill, be whole again, my pretty friend, Hold tight, to Jesus, on him depend. I stand by you, tower now, lean on me, I’ll hold your hand and heart until again you’re free, Storms destroy in ways that trigger hopelessness, But remember all the time your source of happiness. Come now, we’ll face this, it’s time again, Look up from the ground and see the light again, Someday a day will come you’ll think and ask, Of all the precious tears you spent, clinging to the past, Come now, my sweetheart, we’ll face it now, We’ll face the world again and find together how, Sunshine glitter tears, embrace, and peaceful words alone, Evaporate your fears and reveal you’re not on your own. |
