The perils of social networking - dealing with scammers and first loves. |
First Mate Like the great White Whale Lurking somewhere in the murky depths She swims silently And when she breaches close by It is an unexpected jolt A bone-rattling blast from the past Ripping the sails from the rigging Leaving me floundering in her wake I should have known the Devil wouldn't let me down He came a'calling in delicious disguise All cleavage and flowing blond hair Extending a forked hand of friendship With retractable poison tipped talons dripping with temptation In the absence of certainty All I have is instinct Such transparent treachery wrinkles right up my nose twisting knots in my stomach and my left shoulder developed a hunch I never had before lunch Now I can smell the smoke from over the horizon and the distant drums are thumping in my heart as powerful as the moon's gravitational sway beating out a tribal rhythm forewarning me of the soul shattering shock when leviathans collide ---oOo--- First and last stanzas are about women and how they can rock your world although it is just as possible it could be the man rocking the woman's emotional ship. Maybe, more probable? The second stanza refers to the scammers (probably men) lurking behind the profile pictures of attractive young women. It is not about women themselves. 2nd and 3rd stanzas are primarily about men using their common sense, logic and instincts to not get bedazzled by what they see with these online scammers. |
