Seeing a familiar face
I saw a face today.
He reminded me of you.
He had just the same smile
and the same happy lines around his young eyes.
As my vision became cloudy with memory and drink,
I thought he was you.
I approached and spoke as if we were old friends.
I felt like a girl in his presence;
in your presence.
When my heart began to awaken,
from this strange dream,
it cried.
I then remembered what my poor heart longed to forget.
That you are gone.
I left the boy, the illusion of my past,
and dragged my heavy heart back to the present,
weeping for a memory.
