Why I Write

Why I Write

The spoken word is often heard

but rarely is remembered.

The written word remains on page

to comfort and engender.


Today we raise our glasses 

to the eloquent of tongue.

But writers are immortal.

They remain forever young.


Though Sophocles and Shakespeare

have for many years been dead,

their fresh imaginations

live and flourish in my head.
