Poem about a broken heart
A tear fell from one green eye.
It rolled down a pearl white cheek
And soon rushed into open air.
But it did not continue to fall,
It hung locked in time and space
A perfectly shaped drop of human sorrow.
Absorbing the sun like a prism it cast tiny rainbows about the room.
Only God could see within,
Into this watery world where pain and suffering dwelt.
When time released,
The drop fell to the hard ground.
But it was not there alone for long.
A rain of salty tears soon coated the ground.
They pulled together creating small ponds.
Pain and sorrow swam through those troubled waters like fish in the deep oceans.
I so wished to bend and lap up the salty waters,
To detect with my tong the taste of a broken heart.
To take that pain into myself and understand.
For if I could understand
Then I could speak,
and the words would no longer vanish from my mouth.
But it was too late,
She had retreated
Behind a wall she had created.
And like a man exiled from his country I waited,
And hoped
Her green eyes would grant me entrance once again.
