The first day of school is always hard - but it doesn't have to be! Thank God for Mommies |
First Day of School I woke up this morning in a terrible sweat, I knew I wasn’t ready to go to school just yet. I ran into my parent’s room and told them that I just knew, I was awfully sick, I must have caught the flu. Mom jumped out of bed and said let me feel your head, If you truly don’t feel well I will keep you home in bed She pulled me close and felt my skin and said rather quick, I believe you don’t feel well, but I don’t think your sick. I think that maybe you might be just a little bit scared – today is your first day of school and you feel unprepared. You're right Mom I can’t fool you, you always know. But I have a bad feeling and I don’t want to go. What if no one likes me and I sit all by myself, or I accidently knock all the books off of the shelf. Or if I try to speak and only squeak instead, No mom, it’ll just be safer if I stay home in bed. Mom in all her wisdom, said to me most quiet – you’ll never know just what you’ll miss if you don’t even try it! School is an adventure, where you’ll play, sing and dance. You’ll miss out on making friends, if you don’t give it a chance. The things you will learn will help you to grow, and if you want to be like me someday there are things you’ll need to know. In school you’ll learn your abc’s and your numbers too – you’ll get to do the things you love like cut, paint and glue. You’ll hear the best stories in school and there will be books you will start to read – sometimes you’ll get to be a helper and stand up front and lead. You’ll count the days and much much more, you’ll count the tiles on the floor, all the windows and the door – and when your done you’ll count some more. You’ll learn your shapes, and all your colors – you’ll count money change and dollars. You’ll learn to tell time and all about rhyme. You won’t miss me at all – you’ll be just fine. But I’ll miss you – why what will I do? I’m the one who’s in a pickle. I won’t have anyone home to kiss – who on earth will I tickle? Mom, don’t be silly – you can tickle daddy and when I get home we can play. And I will be sure not to leave anything out when I tell you all about my first day! |
