Women Life In Pakistan

Is Pakistani woman a free bird or a bird in a cage? Life style of women in Pakistan varies drastically evidencing perplexities that occur in society regarding women status. This, absolutely, is an International issue that caused initiation of several movements and campaigns occasionally leading to the formation of various NGOs, comprising of men and women that work for women liberation. Conditions of women in Pakistani society have unfortunately failed to draw satisfactory attention by international movements that are moving toward their goal in fast pace, and have shown tremendous progress in fight against women abuse, if not in Pakistan, then at least in other parts of the world.



Here, in Pakistan, if NGOs try to bring a change they could confront awful situations that will include fewer women paying any attention toward women rights issue. “It does not happen these days, those were olden times”, said a friend of mine who herself is mistreated and her existence ignored by her relations. What brought this to my friend was her not being fortunate enough to keep her parents with her forever. While I am writing this, there is news on television headline that reads, “A woman burnt by her relations on the offence of being sexually involved with a person”. How this can be historic to my friend? How her own misfortune can be insignificant to her and all? Where are we heading towards? These questions worry me. A society in which women are not respected move towards downfall, but what about those societies in which selfishness of powerful women becomes the reason of abusing their own sex, what about those in which women unfortunately, dramatically surrender themselves, or probably their rights to men expecting good fortune without caring of those who are less powerful to pen their fate, those whose rights are smashed under feet of men by birth.



At least one case of crime against women is reported daily in all five parts of the country and over 1000 cases are reported every year in crime against women, but that does not matter to those who did not suffer. Should I blame men for this heinous crime when women around her, be it her relations or non-relations of same sex do not care? Kings are not supposed to announce verdict when victims do not ask for a hearing. Kings never step down when nations pretend to be satisfied with authoritarian form of government. Pakistani society is governed dictatorially by men, and women, besides all sufferings, selfishly pretend to be happy with the system with high expectations of good fortune that they bring to them with wealth and power, or probably with amusement of being unstressed even if jobless. These powerful women then spend their time shopping and partying with their friends and when asked about women rights, they repeat what my friend said and suggest praying for good fortune, that is, a wealthy man who according to them pens their fate, utterly ignoring any scheme of equality.



This is because these powerful women are weakest in disguise. They are aware of their covetous needs and wants of a prosperous life blessed by chance and are totally alert that women rights movements require struggle, it asks to quit a prosperous life and step forward to save those who are being punished for a crime that they never committed. And these powerful females are frightened of a life that they would have to live while calling crime a ‘crime’. Male-dominated society has left two options for a woman: a) If a woman obeys him then she is blessed with a beautiful cage by her darling to put her inside, and b) if she disobeys she is left alone and abused.



If women had known their misfortunes before and had asked by God to select a gender they would have selected male. If being a woman is a crime then the one that created her should be punished for He did not put forward an option to select a gender, for He created a waste. I feel lucky for not having a chance to opt for a gender, if I had been provided with such a facility I would have been selfish. And now as I am a woman, I feel proud for I might be a victim anytime, but I, at least shall not be criminal to human rights.
