I Am Here

The little girl sat at the back of the room
filled with the rabble and rumble.
She stood and whispered,
where am I?

As a teen-ager, she tried to listen
and understand.
talking to those around her,
no one paid any attention.
Should I be here?

The lady with silver in her hair
and her mind set,
yelled to anyone and all,
I Am Here!

Do you hear me?
I speak of the lives
I've known

I write of the tears and smiles
of heartbreak and joy
birth and passing on.

You hear me,
listen closely,
for it might be for just a short while.
