Sunlight flickered across my vision’s edge
Like some novel I’d written myself.
Happiness seemed to be a staple crop
Within this floating world
I leaned back with a broad smile
Everything was in place.
I spun around, forgetting the people
The problems
The practicalities
That brought me to my hammock in the garden
And let my soul at peace,
As the trees dappled green light upon
My black sweater.
Everything was so damn perfect
Everything was just in place.
I can’t tell you how it felt.
Jubilee doesn’t do my heart justice.
There was something different at work there.
Something stronger at large.
Something dizzying,
Something frightening
Something awestruck
But I was too overwhelmed to hear much.
A wild taste filled my mouth,
And I can’t forget the green shining
Through my eyelids
Of course, all love comes crashing down
All around me,
Every once in a while
But I was ready.
My rendezvous with joy in that
Tattered garden
Healed me to a point beyond despair.
