A humorous take on meeting a celebrity
Ever since I heard the music of Mary Chapin Carpenter, it became apparent, I have to meet this woman! Her music is timeless, her voice is like a fine wine, so smooth, so beautiful. Not knowing anything about her, her songs would take you through a range of styles, slow, passionate, fast and rhthmic, folksy.

I don't know about other folks, but, for whatever reason, when I decide to meet the people I admire, my personality goes haywire. Something comes over me, and when trying to make a great first impression, I usually end up acting like someone who escaped from a psych unit. Seriously, looking back, I can laugh, but, at the time, it sucks!

So, when meeting Mary Chapin Carpenter for the first time, I was very nervous, since this woman I have adored since I first heard her song, Passionate Kisses. It was July 10, 2010, a hot, humid night at Kent State, a place I had never been to, but, heard about due to what happened in May of 1970.

When she came onstage, I thought, "Good Lord, she's better looking in person, and man, can she sing!"...Thoroughly enjoying her 2 hour show, knowing the end was coming, I sneaked out, and went behind the Theatre where the Tour Buses were, and met up with 2 women who were big fans, and got to know them a little. While waiting, we discussed, where MCC went next, how her health was, what songs she sang....

Every now and then, someone would come out of the backstage, and say, "Oh, you might as well leave, she's sound asleep on her bus." I looked at the other two and said, "How can that be?" After waiting til almost Midnight, there came Mary Chapin surrounded by some men, who appeared to be Bodyguards, and I asked her if I could have a photo taken with her, and one of the men said, "There won't be any photos tonight!"

I said, "Ok," kind of disappointed, but, then she stopped and said, "C'mon over" I cannot begin to tell you, how beautiful she really is. Then it happened, it's sort of like the Professor drinking the potion, and suddenly he becomes Dr. Jekyll, or is it Hyde? I put my arm around her, asked a fellow to take a pic of us, he pretended to take the pic, and instantly, I knew, there was no pic. So while she was signing autographs, I had to sheepishly, apologize to her, and ask her again, can we do this again? I ranted on about the boy who failed his assignment of taking our pic.

The other woman, Margie, looked into Mary Chapin's eyes, and said, "Mary Chapin Carpenter, I love you!" She instantly laughed at that, and I thought, "Why couldn't I be that clever?" Then, it was all a blur, and the vibe I got, was, "Oh, she doesn't like me", and I walked away. The next day, I felt so horrible, here was this chance, to, somehow, make a difference in this woman's life, and alas, it never happened.

I hope one day, we shall meet again, and hopefully, Sybil won't come out, and we can connect on certain interests that we both share. She is one smart, Intelligent Lady. It truly is a blessing to be in her company!
