Names

What`s in a name,
aside from the meaning behind it?
Nicknames, "pet" names, hurtful names,
and all the others intertwined within.

All around us, no matter where we are,
words, names, sayings and phrases change meanings.
Just ask your elderly family members,
you`ll be surprised at how much has changed.

From school-grounds to the workplace,
verbal warfare ensues.
Tensions rise and tempers flare,
the dreadful name game has begun again.

As far as school goes,
the sounds of attacks echo throughout the halls.
Best friends turning to hatred,
all because of the head terrorist; gossip.

It`s funny, this thing called gossip,
us as people love to hate it.
Gossip`s normally all fun and games, however,
until the topic of conversation is you.

When name games meet gossip,
you may as well signal your white flag of surrender.
There`s no stopping the gossip train,
once everyone`s fallen for it`s little games.

Along with the names,
whispers and dirty looks silently attack.
Breaking down the strongest of people,
only to build up their selfish egos.

Protecting yourself from this demon,
is harder than it seems.
Gossip and names are always around,
so take heed to my advice.

Walk away if you hear gossip,
don`t partake in name calling.
Keep a positive attitude about yourself,
never let others get the best of you.

At the end of the day,
it`s all the same.
Sure, some meanings have changed,
but a name is nothing more than a name.
