How you feel if you know you are going to die by a few minutes.........
I was awakened by the screeching sound of the huge iron gate.  I tried to look up but the sudden glimpse of sunlight made it very difficult to widen my eyes. I realized a hazy figure at the entrance of the place, or whatever you call it because I had no idea where I had been kept last night. I just knew that the place was nothing like where I had stayed before or even I would like to stay. Thankfully, these people were sympathetic enough to cover me with a rugged sack and supply some hay for the chilly night. Well trust me, this was just too kind of them. I mean, what more can you expect from people who have bought you to eat you where as the person who had brought you up with all the love and care since your birth, can sell you for a few thousand taka in minutes? I think I am just fool to even think this way, I mean after all I am a cow.
An unexpected tug on the rope at my throat caused a little suffocation. This seriously made me mad and I glared at the offender. But I didn’t seem to know him. Did I see him even for once in the house vicinity? No. I guess all members of this house visited me once to see their animal to be slaughtered and I remember most of them, but definitely not him. With all the sluggishness and reluctance, I followed the direction of the rope to restrain the pain. The man took me and tied the rope to a jackfruit tree. He tore a branch full of leaves and tied them to a height suitable for me to reach. Wow, what mercy!
Soon enough people gathered around the place. I could see people murmuring all around me. The elders were planning how to manage the cutting, dividing and cooking portion of the day where as the young ones were busy plotting their way out of the distributing responsibilities. Well, since few days I have had enough idea of the brutal nature human beings conceal under their docile outlook and treatment but I still couldn’t induce in myself the fact that today is my last day on this earth. Is this day really my death day? Am I really going to die after a few hours? If yes, is there still a chance that I might be saved?
I got all the answers just by standing here under this tree and gazing straight forward. Now I also realized who the man was at the morning. He was the butcher! My life taker. Looking up, I see him sharpening the life taking weapon- the knife. Now I am fully convinced I am going to die. But hey, at least I won’t be one of those cows who’d died out of anthrax or slaughtered for the pleasure of a rich feast! Rather I would be one of those who are slaughtered to honor and express gratitude to the Almighty! I won’t be counted as dead, I would be counted a martyr. I am not dejected, I am proud.
I guess the time has come. They have already surrounded me. I see the sharp knife glaze in sunlight. Oh no! I am scared. They forced me and I toppled down. My limbs are instantly tied. The butcher is advancing, oh my god! Why am I trying to break free? I suddenly felt a scorching feeling at the throat. Everything blanked out. Is this the end of everything?
