Remember 9/11
Listening to the radio play
Singing songs in the shower
Smelling rose talcum powder
The sun had kissed the sky that day
As so many times before
Silently watching birds soar.

Wiping at a milk sodden face
Taking the dog out to run
This last day has just begun
The sun had kissed the sky that day
As we live at life’s core
Breakfast on the run once more.

Traffic travels back and forth
A coin in musician’s cap
To strum the guitar in lap
The sun had kissed the sky that day
Living this day no more
Nightmares of the closing door

Waving to friends down the hall
Grab a cup along the way
Schedule is hectic today
The sun had kissed us all good night
Three planes stolen from flight
Havoc in the smoke filled sight

The heroes came one and all
Many only came to fall
Struggled for their love and call
The sun had kissed them all goodnight
Terror filled, pillared sight
Together a living fight

One more plane was stolen still
A worldly revolution
Choice of a dire solution.
The sun erupted fire for tears
The phoenix rose among
The final battle cry sung

We clearly hear echoed pain
Reaching the ancient refrain
The flame cast, the phoenix risen
Testament to the American vision
