Walking in the rain alone,
the route nor destination known;
with a bowed head, I slowly trudged,
over deserted streets and flooded fields,
the rain beating on my shoulders wide,
a showery curtain over the Earth, white!
Beneath the canopy of the Banyan tree,
languorous, I stood silently still
and watched the wet prancing children,
splashing in the puddles with gay abandon-
the golden childhood of Life!
Splish!Splash!the drops fall in the pond
Swish! Swash! sway the trees in the ground;
the shriveled plants and the flowers,
shake off the lethargy of summer;
and don apparel green and shinier.
the drumming of the rain over the roofs,
like the din of distant hoofs;
the croaking frogs, the chirping crickets,
and the rumbling clouds too join the rest-
to make music melodious and mystical,
- the Earth’s welcome to the rejuvenating rain!
