The sun beats down on me with an unforgiving hand.
No reprieve in this empty, desolate land.
No evidence that the beautiful lights of life exist.
In it's harsh blaze, they could no longer resist.
I shield my eyes against the brightness;
hoping to see someone,
anyone,
you.
But it burns to look anymore, I can't bear the truth.
Regret seeps out of my pores.
The shameful, sticky tracks it leaves are hard to ignore.
I wish the rain would come and wash it away.
So that when you come again you will want to stay.
But for now, I hide from the stinging glare of the sun.
Watching and waiting for any sign that you will come.
The parched ground of my broken heart
is crying out for rain.
A shower,
a sprinkle,
a drop,
to take away my pain.
But for now, there's nothing here to entertain;
except the scorching sun,
and me wishing for rain.
