Poem I wrote during my high school poetry contest. Won 3rd place out of 200 entries.
As moonlight shines on crystal shores,
Whilst the heaven's cry and shout.
When tears from above cascade to earth,
The sea shall thrash about.

The howling winds rattle my abode,
Atop the cliffs that night.
Their tortured sobs still pain my ears,
Seeking shelter from their plight.

With darkness consumed, I hide in my room,
Cornered and huddled in fright.
With only a wax stick, and fiery wick…
My darling candle light.

This righteous beacon's humbled glow,
The savior of my soul.
Does battle with darkness over my will,
One gaining little control

The damned shall show their faces,
Perverse shadows with lustful grins.
Watching, waiting for the light to die,
So I may succumbed to sin.

As I wallow in trepidation,
Heart succumbing to temptation,
The flicker of my salvation, dimming, wavering, to the dark night.
I hold the candle, conscience thinning,
Asking, "Who shall be saved from sinning?"
"From the darkness that is winning, restless, neglecting all respite."
But as the flame burns longer, I persist my mind to wander
For my faith I shall not squander, until Heaven is in sight.
For I'm under the protection, of my fatherly, candle light.
