Life is hardly easy (poem) |
It's easy to swear and its easy to smoke, And to treat everything as a practical joke. It's easy to win someone's trust that they built On the lies and the charm that were easily spilt. It's easily easier keeping the peace, And it's easy when peaceful to easily grease Their money, they like that on them you depend, Which makes their allowance so easy to spend. It's easy to feel no remorse and no love, And it's easy to laugh at the heavens above. It's easy to talk but it's easier still, Just to lie on a mattress and see off a pill. It's easy to cry for you get off the hook, And the sympathy has every fault overlooked, Easier still to both panic and shake, For instead of the give it's just take and it's take. It's easy to shag but it's easy to not, As it's all just the same once you've easily shot. And it's easy to sleep and ignore their desire, As the shagging serves only to put out your fire. It's easy to have no direction and drive, And to silence the salient fact you're alive. It's easy to ruin your body with drinks, When the body does nothing; it grows and it shrinks. It's easy to write every one of these lines, The maths is so easy, just letters and signs. It's easy to make this seem thoughtful and deep, Easy being an anapestic tetrametre sheep. The easiest thing about life seems to be, To sit in this jail and swallow the key. But when seen that it's easy to capture the guard, It's easy to see that existence is hard. |
