Inspired by a contest using words loneliness flame senses sky hearts prison youth seasons

Everything has a time and a season
but not everything has rhyme or a reason.
I rack my brain trying to make sense of it all,
but my heart refuses to accept the inevitable.
Consequences of my reckless youth

have me in a prison of regret that I cannot escape.
Loneliness is like a favorite jacket I can’t throw away.
It wears like it was tailored for me,
in my favorite color, cotton-blend, and durability.
That it will keep the cold away, there is no proof.

I see blue skies from time to time,
but for you my senses tell me not to pine.
Whether the sky is blue or gray,
your love for me was not meant to stay.
Why, I don’t know…I’m no sleuth.

Though I’ve let you go
seasons and seasons ago;
my hearts’ flame burns for you still.
Hot and fiery, no matter the chill.
This is my personal truth.
