A Maiden Voyage

Under your tutelage, I flourished
and grew confident with the skills
you've instilled in me.

I worked hard and never questioned
the reason why I chose this vessel
as a means to realize my dreams.

And now the time has come
for me to step out on my own,
to prove I can take care of my own needs.

But doubt has increased with the wind,
rocking the boat of my confidence;
promising to break me unless I admit defeat.

But I refuse to raise the flag of surrender.
I will not tuck my tail and run.
My stubborn pride rages defiantly.

I stand at the helm
ready to take it all on
I will not let the turbulent seas discourage me.
