It's always been you.
I think I've always known it-
and I need to tell you now
how important you truly are to me.
Even when we were apart-
Throughout the many years-
you were never really gone-
you were still with me.

Like a shadow cast on the backdrop of my heart-
You lingered often in my dreams.
Like a voice in the back of my mind-
whispering words that my lonely heart-
if not my head- always heard.

There was no replacing you.
No one ever even came close.
No one could fill the void in my life
that your beautiful smile left behind.
No one could ever know me-
the real me- as well as you do.
And still love me, flaws and all.

I will always regret letting you go.
It was my biggest mistake.
I kept telling myself that we had to part-
that it was necessary for us both so that we could grow.
And change... And learn.
But I knew the minute we started speaking again
that I deeply regretted
all the years I missed with you.

And what hasn't changed
regardless of the time we spent apart-
is now crystal clear....
You are the lost piece of my puzzle
that I've needed all this time
to help me feel whole.
You bring a certain peacefulness
that just washes over me-
and you bring a happiness to my world
beyond any words
that I could ever write.

I'm so completely grateful
that I get to say this to you-
because for a while there I wondered
if I would ever have a chance to say it.
I'm so glad it's not too late...
and I don't want to waste

or a single second.
