The lie began when you came back.
Your eyes could never look at me.
and some how you seemed worry-free.
My heart beat like a maniac.
I tried to say another word.
My eyes were wet, suddenly blurred.
Time passed. You stayed. Our love turned black.
I tried to think of what went wrong.
Friends said with you I don't belong.
Our emotions were cold, off-track.
The truth came suddenly bright
that the loving spark we could not light.
Our parting kiss was a flashback
to two lovers whose hearts were true.
And life goes on with heartbreaks new.
This is a Constanza poem that has 5 or more 3 line stanzas. The rhyming scheme is abb, acc, add, aee and on if you choose. Each line has 8 syllables. The first lines of all of the stanzas can be read as a separate poem. It was created by Connie Marcum Wong. I found this poem style quite challenging.
My time is Central Standard time so I did put this poem in on Monday, April 9th in my time zone.
