About losing someone

Life among the stars was a life that
I thought I would never become accustomed.
Being a loner I just wasn’t used to
all the lights and the attention.

But once I was drawn into your orbit
you brightened my atmosphere,
and eventually I became more accepting
and brave once I decided to forge this new frontier.

I became comfortable and lax
in our seemingly perfect life together.
Never realizing that all things come to an end
and that we were not meant to last forever.

Your light was the brightest that I had ever seen it
then out of the blue my world was again black.
I looked everywhere for you
but you left without a text, a call, or letter by thumbtack.

The darkness overwhelmed me
and my crash landing to earth was not so forgiving.
Having kept company with the celestial,
becoming earth bound has been a rude awakening.

The lights are not the same
when you see them from earth,
and the heavenly dance is not so heavenly
when you’re dancing by yourself.

Now that my feet have been firmly planted on the ground,
I refuse to look at the sky.
I am now cursed to walk the earth
because my sun has died.
