It's been awhile since I wrote a short story, any and all feedback is much appreciated.
There is a place not far from here where dreams are the beautiful fantasies of little children. This place is called Lumea.

Every night the land of Lumea is filled with new dreams of all the little children in the world. And in this land there are also very magical little fairies that live and play. These fairies help all of the boys and girls to fall asleep and have wonderful, beautiful dreams.

One night a little girl, Lisa, was getting into her bed, her mother read her a book, kissed her good night and left the room. She lay down on her pillow, closed her eyes and tried to go to sleep. But she couldn’t, she opened her eyes, looked around and fluffed up her pillow and lay down again. Moments passed and she still couldn’t sleep. She tossed and turned, re-arranged her blankets, and fluffed up her pillow again. But nothing that she did would put her to sleep. Lisa was getting so tired but for some reason she just couldn’t sleep.

Amelia, watching from Lumea was aware of this little girl not sleep yet and came down to her rescue. Lisa was laying on her back staring out her window, looking up at the stars when she noticed a bright light came floating down from the midnight sky toward her, through her window and landed at the foot of her bed.  As the light slowly faded away, there stood a little fairy.

The fairy was only a couple of inches tall; she had soft transparent pink wings, long curly red hair with freckles on her nose. She wore a long flowing pink dress and carried a pink Water Lilly flower wand.  She was so tiny and so pretty. Even her cheeks and lips were a rosy pink.

“Who are you?” Lisa asked in wonderment.

“I’m your dream fairy”, she said; “My name is Amelia, and I’m here to help you.” Amelia had a very soft voice but it seemed to carry just like the bright light carried her through Lisa’s window.

“You’re a dream fairy?” Lisa asked as she sat up in her bed, “To help me?” Lisa was very confused, she needed help to sleep not dream.

Amelia looked at Lisa and smiled. She fluttered closer to Lisa, and landed on her knee, which was bent and pulled close to her chest.

“Help me fall asleep! That would be wonderful, I haven’t been able to sleep at all and I’m so tired” Lisa said. “Where do you come from?”

“I come from a very magical place that’s filled with all of the wonderful dreams of all the little boys and girls. So when you don’t sleep, you don’t dream, and we fairies need you to dream because without dreams my home can’t exist” Amelia explained.

“Well how do you suppose you can help me go to sleep?” asked Lisa.

“Well I’m a fairy and my wand caries a special fairy dust that will help you go to sleep.” Amelia stated confidently

“I guess it’s worth a try” Lisa said. So she lay down in her bed, pulled the covers up under her armpits and waited for the magic fairy dust. She was so exhausted and hoped that this would work.

Amelia flew up high above her bed and began to sprinkle pink fairy dust over Lisa with her wand, a few seconds passed by and Lisa was still awake, she had not fallen asleep.

“Hmm……” said Amelia, “you should be asleep, maybe I didn’t sprinkle enough dust, let me try again.” So she raised her wand and shook it until more pink fairy dust fell over Lisa. That ought to do it she thought.  A few minutes went by and Lisa was still awake.

Lisa just looked at her and asked, “are you sure this is magic fairy dust?”

“Yes it is magic fairy dust, I’m a fairy… but let’s try it one more time” she said. Amelia raised her wand again, looked at Lisa, “close your eyes” she demanded. Lisa closed her eyes, and Amelia shook her wand back and forth feverishly releasing a big cloud of pink dust to fall over Lisa. Waited a couple of seconds for it to settle, looked intently at Lisa to see if she had fallen asleep.

Just when Amelia thought it had worked this time, Lisa slowly opened one eye, peeked up to see Amelia staring back at her. Her face was a bright pink color and her long red hair looked as bright as the sun, her was nose crinkled and hands on her hips.

“Why aren’t you sleeping?” Amelia asked in utter frustration.

“I don’t know, I want to go to sleep, honest I do, but I just can’t” Lisa said with a whimper, tears welling up in her eyes; she was so exhausted. She felt as though sleep would never come for her, if magic fairy dust won’t work then nothing will, she thought.

Although Amelia was frustrated and desperately wanted Lisa to go to sleep, there had to be a reason why she couldn’t, the fairy dust always works… unless she’s afraid of falling asleep. Amelia fluttered down to Lisa who was now sitting upright in her bed, arms around her knees pulled up to her chest again and sat down in front of her. “Are you scared of going to sleep?” she asked her.

“Well…” Lisa started, “well, yes. I mean, sometimes I have bad dreams, and they’re scary.”

Amelia looked at Lisa, smiled and wiped the tear from her face that was beginning to fall from her right eye. “Don’t be scared, I’m your dream fairy and bad dreams aren’t anything to be afraid of, all we have to do is say a magical poem and your bad dreams will be gone.”

“Well what kind of magical poem is it?” Lisa asked as she lifted her head to look at Amelia who was wide eyed smiling back at her.

“All you have to say is …” she fluttered up a few inches took a deep breath and said:

                “Good night, good night
                   Dream fairies good night
                   Sweet dreams, sweet dreams
                   Bad dreams take flight”

“If you say this poem every night before you go to bed, bad dreams won’t come. Now go ahead, lie down and give it a try and as you say the magical poem. I will sprinkle pink fairy dust over once more and off to sleep you will go.” Amelia encouraged.

Lisa lay down in her bed, covered herself up, looked up at Amelia floating above her and began to recite the poem as a light cloud of pink fairy dust began fall over her,

                “Good night, good night
                   Dream fairies good night
                   Sweet dreams, sweet dreams
                   Bad dreams take flight.”

Amelia stayed for a couple of minutes and there it was Lisa was off to a deep, deep sleep to dream of wonderful magical things.  Amelia continued to watch over Lisa, and Lisa always looked out of her window into the midnight sky and recited the magical poem every night.
