Another broken heart poem

A wish unfulfilled is what I see when I look at you.
A world of possibilities wasted
and my heart broken in two.
So many dreams have dissipated
so much love lost,
all because you couldn’t commit.
And to what cost...
          an ocean of tears perhaps,
          a collapsed vein or two,
          a soul irreparably wounded;
I know it wasn’t the same for you.

I will never see the day when you will crawl back and plead.
You walked away without a backward glance,
as if you never knew me.
No excuses or apologies,
just an empty closet…a blank shelf.
And only time will tell
if my heart will ever heal itself.
For I shall never another day see
when I open up my heart
and let it be free.
Or let it love another once again…
for fear that it will play this tired tune
of broken hearts by men made of tin.
