Poem inspired by the poem "Ithaca" which was translated by Constantine P. Cavafay
(here is the original) (Here is my version)
When you set out on your journey to Ithaca,
pray that the road is long,
full of adventure, full of knowledge.
The Lestrygonians and the Cyclops,
the angry Poseidon -- do not fear them:
You will never find such as these on your path,
if your thoughts remain lofty, if a fine
emotion touches your spirit and your body.
The Lestrygonians and the Cyclops,
the fierce Poseidon you will never encounter,
if you do not carry them within your soul,
if your soul does not set them up before you.

Pray that the road is long.
That the summer mornings are many, when,
with such pleasure, with such joy
you will enter ports seen for the first time;
stop at Phoenician markets,
and purchase fine merchandise,
mother-of-pearl and coral, amber and ebony,
and sensual perfumes of all kinds,
as many sensual perfumes as you can;
visit many Egyptian cities,
to learn and learn from scholars.

Always keep Ithaca in your mind.
To arrive there is your ultimate goal.
But do not hurry the voyage at all.
It is better to let it last for many years;
and to anchor at the island when you are old,
rich with all you have gained on the way,
not expecting that Ithaca will offer you riches.

Ithaca has given you the beautiful voyage.
Without her you would have never set out on the road.
She has nothing more to give you.

And if you find her poor, Ithaca has not deceived you.
Wise as you have become, with so much experience,
you must already have understood what Ithacas mean.
As I set out for buying a MacBook,
I hoped that my road would be a short one,
full of free shipping, full of gadgets.
mom, dad,
angry parents-don't be afraid of them:
you'll never encounter them in that state,
as long as you pay your way,
as long as a passion for a better laptop
inspires you to do something about it.
Viruses, crashes,
wild programs-you won't encounter them
unless you bring them along inside your hard drive,
unless your computer sets them up in front of you. Hope your laptops’ life is a long one.
May there be mornings when,
with pleasure and joy,
you turn on your computer and it is as fast as it was the first time;
may you stop at Apple accessory stores,
to buy fine laptop covers,
hard case, silicone and decal stickers,
sensual colors of every kind-
buy as many amazing cases as you can;
and may you visit many MacBook forums
to learn and go on learning from their blogs. Keep that MacBook always in your mind.
Buying it is what you're destined for.
But don't hurry the journey at all.
A new one comes out every year,
so you're older by the time you need to change your laptop,
wealthy with all the business plans you’ve made on it,
not expecting such a great laptop to make you rich.
The MacBook can give me the ultimate computer experience.
Without knowing about it, I would still be stuck with a PC.
Some of the MacBooks are older models,
the newer models offer more, but the MacBook is still a MacBook.
Knowledgeable as you will have become of the MacBook, so full of experience,
you'll have understood by then what it means to own a MacBook.
