Entry for a horror contest-I think everyone can relate to wanting to do this! |
Electricity "I need to talk to you," Kelly said to her boss. "It's about the Halloween party for the kids and-" "Not right now," her boss Frieda brushed by Kelly on her way out the door. It was 3:30, the busses were gone. The children of the district were no longer her responsibility. The only thing Frieda wanted was a stiff drink. "But I need money for decorations!" Kelly protested. "I've spent everything on costumes for them. Otherwise they wouldn't have anything to wear to the party." "There's no money for such things,” Frieda said, taking out her car keys. "I gave everyone the same amount. You'll just have to manage." Suddenly there was a flash of lightning. Frieda stopped in her tracks and looked at the sky. "That was awfully close," she commented. She looked at Kelly, and then looked at her again. Was it her imagination, or were Kelly's eyes, normally a bright blue, turning gray? "Frieda, please-"Kelly tried again. "Out of the question. There isn't any money for such things." Rain began to trickle out of gray-blue clouds. Gale force winds blew leaves all over the place. There was a sharp flash of lightning and a deafening clap of thunder. Kelly looked towards her boss's car. "No money...and yet you drive a brand new Mercedes Benz," Kelly said slowly. She looked at Frieda in disgust. Kelly seemed oblivious in the rain. The combination of her silver dress and the rain made her blend in with the mist. Her pale blue eyes seemed to become more silver by the second. "Now I see...five bucks here, ten there....who is going to notice? The little first graders you gyp? The teachers who work with the pennies you dole out? Skim a little off the top, no one will notice, right, Frieda? Little job perk?" "Watch it, Kelly," Frieda said snidely, reaching out to unlock the door. That's when lightning struck between her hand and the car. She jumped back in fright. There was a deafening clap of thunder and Kelly shrieked "Frieda!" over the wind. Kelly's face was as pale as paper, her eyes as silvery blue as the lightning. Frieda would have been terrified if she had taken the time to glance at her. Kelly picked up the keys, and handed them back just as the next flash of lightning struck them. She held them in Frieda’s hand with an iron grip. Electricity flowed from the lightning, through Kelly's arm and Frieda’s keys, right through her body. Frieda’s hair began to stand up; smoke came out of her mouth. Kelly held the keys to her hand until Frieda’s skin was burned black, her hair was smoking and parts of her skeleton were showing. The flesh was bright red and swollen. The keys actually melted to her hand, metal on bone and charred flesh. Her eyes were wide with shock. Kelly smiled chillingly at the corpse and said with contempt, "serves you right, bitch." Her eyes began to change back to their normal blue and her color returned to normal. The next day, the school was abuzz with Frieda’s untimely electrocution. Kelly's fellow teacher Mary said, "People say you were the last one seen with her. I have to ask, did you see what happened? You didn't push her into a puddle or something, did you? Kelly laughed. "What do you think I am an electro-kinetic? Only God can control lightning!" |
