At Any Given Moment

On any given night, in any given city;

There's a woman professing her love
to a man who doesn't care
just as long as she's there again tomorrow

There's a little boy who tries to fall asleep
clutching his bruised rib cage,
a teddy bear and his broken heart

There's a teenager making the choice
to continue being a kid one more day
or to accept themselves as a parent

There's a little girl giving her body to a stranger
because the stranger she knows better
promised her it would be the last time he'd ever ask

There's a man who believes his American dream can be found
at the bottom of a bottle, if only he could find the right one

There's an acoustic guitar strumming out a melody
that tries to stretch itself out a little father on the wind,
hoping, soon others will want to hum along

There's a lonely soul singing out to the stars, seeking answers
or just one moment of silence from all the questions

There's a wife, depressed, ignored and unheard,
who whispers desperate rosaries prayers
while she pleads with angels only she can see
planning an early admission into heaven, requiring their forgiveness

And there goes...
Another night of anticipated hopes
which will only lead to...
Another day of illuminated disappointments

the sun will come out tomorrow
but there are some nights we wish we could wish away

(but sometime we wish it would just stay away)
