A story about a young panda trying to look for his parents.
Bernie's Struggles

The things you want might not always be the things you need.

“Hi, sorry to bother you again, my name is Bernie Phillip. I was wondering if you have any information on my parents,” Bernie said desperately as he was talking to the operator. “I’m sorry sir; there are no records of Mr. and Mrs. Phillips here.” Bernie could tell the operator was getting tired of him calling since it had been his 5th time calling this hour. Bernie hung up the phone and decided he would call again the next day. “Hey there Bernie,” Mr. Fluff, a white and blue unicorn, said as he walked through the door, “what are you up to?” “Nothing, I’m just trying to find my parents again.” “Bernie that’s the 3rd time you called the operator this hour.” “Actually it’s the 5th,” Bernie replied with a low voice. “That is it Bernie Phillips, get your things, we’re going to China to find them.”
Mr. Fluff and Bernie arrived at Candy Land, China. They went to the government office and looked up Mr. and Mrs. Phillips. There was a lady unicorn with pink hair who always sat in the front desk. Mr. Fluff knew she looked familiar. “Are you Betsy Ronald?” Mr. Fluff asked. “Yes sir, are you Mike Fluff?” “Why yes I am. I remember you from elementary school. You use to be my best friend.” “How have you been Mr. Fluff? It’s been so long,” Betsy said with an excited voice. “I’m doing great, how are you? I’m here with my foster child. I’ve been taking care of him since he was 6 years of age.” “That’s wonderful. If you need anything I’m here. I think maybe we should catch up.” “Yes, of course. I will call you and make some arrangements.”
A few hours later, when they got to the hotel, Mr. Fluff went straight to sleep, so he could be ready for the morning. Bernie was up all night thinking of what his parents would say. “Would they even want me back?” Bernie thought to himself. Bernie went to his bed and closed his eyes. “Mom, Dad! Don’t leave me! Come back!” Bernie opened his eyes and started crying. He remembered when the guards took his parents. The only thing he remembered was them looking back saying they loved him. He was 5 years old. That was 8 years ago. He hadn’t noticed how long ago it had been. He closed his eyes again and he was back in the Foster home . That day, Mr. Fluff had come in talking to the kids about fostering parents. Never did he know Mr. Fluff would take him in his care and now, 7 years later, he had a great love for his foster dad. “I know that if Mr. Fluff, my foster dad, will always be there for me.”
Since Betsy had Bernie’s parents’ address, they all met up at her house. “Hey, come on in,” Betsy said opening the door with a smile as big as the sun. Would you like something to drink or eat?” “No ma’am I just want to go already,” Bernie said before Mr. Fluff could even answer. They took a drive down to a really creepy neighborhood. The address directed them to an old abandoned house. Mr. Fluff and Bernie got off and Betsy waited in the car. They knocked on the door, and they simultaneously said, “Is anyone home?” There was no answer at the door. A lady that lived next door, with some old pajamas, came out of her own house . “There’s no one home. There hasn’t been anyone home for I don’t know how many years. Mr. and Mrs. Phillip, the two pandas, passed away from a disease when they came back. They escaped form the guards, but unfortunately they passed away.” Mr. Fluff turned back to see Bernie with tears in his eyes running back to the car. “Thank you for the help,” he turned back and said to the lady.
When they got back home, Mr. Fluff was trying to get Bernie happy again, so he took out a ring to give to Betsy. Mr. Fluff went to kneel down on one knee and proposed to her. On the ring, there was diamond as big as a rock . Bernie and Betsy were in shock. “Will you marry me?” Mr. Fluff asked as his knees were trembling. “Oh my, I can’t believe it. Yes, of course.” Bernie forgot about everything for a second. He was so happy for his foster dad. “That’s not it,” looking at Bernie, Mr. Fluff said, “If you don’t mind, I would like to adopt you legally.” “Yes of course. You’ve been like my dad for so long and I would love to have a family.”
As Betsy walked down the aisle, there were tears in Bernie and Mr. Fluff’s eyes. They knew that right then and there, there family was completed. Even if it was two unicorns and a panda, it was the best family they had ever seen.
