Descriptive exploration of an emotional facade.
At the end of yet another day, I step out into the night.

With the darkness and stars for company; I take a deep breath and feel the heaviness of the day fall from my shoulders. I lower myself onto the ground wrap my arm around my knees and wait. I know that in this moment, I have never been more alone; it’s not a bad feeling, maybe its resignation. Or perhaps, it’s that I am feeling something genuine; an emptiness inside me; that would welcome the pain of sorrow.

Anything would feel better than the automated responses of getting thru another day.
Slowly the sounds of the night, the feel of the damp earth, and smell of freshly cut grass still lingering in the air filters into my consciousness. Crickets chirping, the occasional blinking of the rare firefly, lighting its way through the darkness; I begin to hear the sounds of life all around me, like a T.V. thru an open window, a dog barking in the distance at the shallows of the night, cars passing on the street.

I am hidden from sight, and unknown to the world… invisible; I hear the breeze as it rustles the leaves of the trees around me, as I listen and begin to feel the loosening of the clenching control that is my armor.
