A turkey makes his getaway.
When the turkey decided to make his escape,
he first checked to make sure that he was in good shape.
For he heard last year’s turkey was one also-ran,
since while trying to flee, he tripped over the fan.

Therefore Turkey Today--in his bid to be free,
checked the tone of his legs and his dexterity.
He made sure that he knew of the fan’s whereabouts
to avoid any hungry “get that turkey” shouts.

And he also made sure to enable his wings,
since in order to fly one must think of those things.
Then he said to the mashies and loaf of whole wheat,
“It’s a go, though you may think I’m stuffed with conceit.”

So then Turkey Today slowly opened the fridge;
he coaxed carrots and celery to form a bridge.
While Today dressed for running away from the bread,
he accepted his wattle* was wrinkled and red.

Yet as he was about to make his final tracks,
he avoided the fan but he slipped due to wax.
So he righted himself in a gobble of dang
while he noted the dessert was Lemon Meringue.

As she came to Today she was sugary sweet,
and she said, “Once we leave we can run in the street!”
First, Today was reluctant to take her along,
but he felt with a pie he just couldn’t go wrong.

Thus Today and Meringue with the house out of sight,
were like Bonnie and Clyde in the still of the night.
Meringue wondered that day if Today was awry,
and Today looked at her for a piece of the pie.

Then Today boasted gobbles at doing okay,
and how nobody witnessed their slick getaway.
But Meringue had the crust to throw Today a loss:
“O the beans saw us go, and the cranberry sauce!”
