A simple poem about a dysfunctional astronaut that I am sure many can relate to. |
-Dysfunctional Astronaut- by Keaton Foster Four Three Two One Ignition Rockets Firing Blasting off A dysfunctional astronaut Sits pinned to his seat Alone he breaks from earth Alone he heads out Into forever’s oblivion He volunteered He assured them all That he had nothing to lose A one way ticket to deep space A one way ticket to nothing No one down below cheers for him No one up above is waiting for him In between is where he is going In between is where he will always be As soon as he reaches orbit Those in charge will sever the connection All communication will be abruptly stopped Never again will he hear another’s voice As time floats by, as his life winds down They will monitor his passing sanity They will marvel at what a man Is capable of when he is so very alone The data will be carefully cataloged Because no other would ever do What it is he has agreed to do They will make detailed future plans Based on the data of his deterioration He is a dysfunctional astronaut A space cadet if there ever was one Beyond earths grip he will go Out into the void unknown His vessel has enough supplies To last beyond what remains of his life He has nothing but a simple method To record his thoughts and feelings Through the coming stages of such isolation Each word will be unimaginably valuable To everyone involved but him He has done few things right with his life Those who gave him life have done even less Forever he will float into nothing Forever he will be as one with himself Once he breaks the boundaries of orbit Not much will change for him Once he slips into deep space Alone he will continue to always be The choice was his to make It will be his to live with… Dysfunctional Astronaut Written by Keaton Foster Copyright © 2012. |
