In the beginning was the want,
and the want thought it good,
and the want was good.
Nothing existed without want.
Then the spirit of envy moved
in many shades of green,
separating fog of apathy
from covetous firmament.
All this happened on day two.
Then desire formed in copious mix,
jaundiced, full of spite,
watchful from both land and sea.
Zealous umbrage ended day three.
Day four began with cupidity,
with the nose out of joint.
But that was fine.
Then the green-eyed monster,
apprehensive, mouth full of water,
stopped short.
Intolerance entered the scene
suspicious of every speck and iota,
erecting on day five
fences gleaming in the sun.
So want tilled the soil
and planted seeds, grew lush
expanses of grass, richer than happiness.
Yet eyes were fixed elsewhere.
Then on day seven jealousy rested,
allowing love to carry on
in its absence.
