“What’s this one for, Grampa?” The little boy pulled a ragged bit of ribbon and tarnished brass from the box on his lap.

“That one’s for being a good soldier.” The old man replied, smiling down at the four year old on his lap.

“Is that one of yours?”

“No, that one belonged to my father, your great-grandfather.”

“From the really big war, right?”

“Yes, that was World War II.”

“Is this one yours, then?” he asked, lifting another medal from the box.

“Yes, that’s mine. Vietnam.”

“Here’s a new one from daddy.”

“Grampa, what does this say?”

“Posthumously awarded.”
