A poem about a Celtic fort, Grianan, near my home town of Derry in Northern Ireland.
Grianan

The sky had turned a darkened grey
As we made our way to that sacred hill
Two pilgrims who had come to pray
To a place where time had long stood still
Within a space that touched our hearts
Where time and beauty had made their mark
Which the passing years could never steal
Evolving around a turning wheel
Of a world that slowly moved along
And something stirred within our souls

Oblivious to the wind and rain
We sheltered upon those ancient walls
Transfixed upon this wild terrain
Whose beauty filled us both with awe
Hand in hand in the pale half light
We lost ourselves in a surging tide
Stirred by a passion that was uncontrolled
Swirling and dancing with those ancient ghosts
Who had awakened inside that shadowy realm
From some yesterday that slept so sound

What privilege to share our dreams
To explore the beauty of it all
What privilege to reach out and feel
A passion that transcends even love
Your hair was tossing in the wind
I touched your cheek it felt so soft
