Chapter 6


In another location, in front of the Sekera estate. The house is very old fashioned, most likely built in the 19th century. Most of the outside is made out of stone and there are statues carved around the house. There is even a statue surrounded by a fountain outside. Some of the stone is cracked and worn out indicating the age of the building and the lack of care for the outside. A beam of light shoots from the sky and touches down on the grass in front of the estate. The wind kicks up and blows the branches of the nearby trees that surround the property. The light dissipates and the wind stops. Standing there are Zinagata, Ryannus, Jessie, and Rome. Parked in the driveway of the estate is a mustard yellow mustang, standing alongside of it is a young man with fiery red hair. He is wearing a black jacket with a white shirt under it. He also has on red pants and stud earring in his left ear. He walks over to the group.

Ryannus-
Look who it is, John Sekera.

John Sekera-
Ryannus Jokkenin, I heard about your father. Terrible tragedy, wrong place at the wrong time I would guess.

Ryannus-
About 10 years too late on that news, Johnny.

John-
Its John by the way. Tell me, do you still draw those comics of yourself? Ryannus: The Greatest Warrior of Them All, or something?

Ryannus-
Once again John, you’re living in the past. For starters, who the hell buys a mustard yellow car?

John-
Hey it’s a classic; this is an $80,000 car.

Ryannus-
(Looks at the car and the estate.) Man you guys really don’t any taste in anything do you?

Rome-
Alright, enough. Everybody, this is John Sekera. John, I’m Augustos Rome, this is Jessie Kai of the Kai family, and Zinagata Zimile-Keita of the Zimile-Keita family.

John-
Zinagta Zimile-Keita, that’s a mouthful.

Ryannus-
Well you do know mouthfuls.

John turns back to Ryannus with an annoyed looked on his face, as does Rome.

Ryannus-
Hey, don’t set me up like that if you don’t want me to tee that sum-bitch right off.

Both John and Rome turn back around, Jessie leans into Ryannus.

Jessie-
(Smiles) I thought it was pretty funny.

Ryannus-
Well at least somebody around here appreciates humor.

The group begins to walk towards the front steps of the estate.

John-
I just arrived here, I knocked on the door but nobody answered. That’s very unusual. One of the help should have answered.

Rome-
You don’t live here anymore?

John-
No, like most of my family I live in Europe. We consider it our ancestral home. The only ones still here are my grandmother, my weak-willed father, my younger brother and sister, my uncle, his wife and their son, my cousin.

Zinagata-
How did you know to come here?

John-
I’ve met the Elder before, trained with him a little bit. He contacted me and briefed me about the situation. He wants me to join with you, I’ll consider it.

Rome-
Guess we should head inside and figure out what’s going on.

John-
Yes, (turns to Ryannus and points at him) but he is not welcome in a Sekera house.

Ryannus-
Oh darn.

Rome-
Alright, I would like to void an incident. Jessie, stay out here with him.

Jessie-
Yeah, I will.

Ryannus-
Hey, babysitter.

Rome-
Zinagata, you’re with me.

Rome, Zinagata, and John walk up the front steps to two huge double doors. They use the knockers on the front to signal they’re at the door. The impact on the doors leads to loud echoing booms. They wait a few seconds but nobody comes to answer the door. Rome knocks again, this time to door cracks open.


Rome, John, and Zinagata walk inside the dark and dreary estate. John turns to Zinagata.

John-
You can just wait by the doors.

Rome nods to Zinagata to do just that as him and John go walking into the estate. As they are walking, John decides to call out the names of his family members inside the estate.

John-
Grandmother!? Grandmother!? Father!?

Unbeknownst to John and Rome most of the members of the Sekera clan have been beaten to unconsciousness and hidden in the basement of the estate. The attackers remain close by…

They continue to walk around the estate and search for anybody inside. Rome and John walk into a very large ball room. It’s dimly lit with 2 staircases on the sides that lead up to the second floor. Standing on the top of the cases are 2 figures, one is standing with his back facing them looking out a wall sized window, the other is an old woman in a wheelchair facing them. The older man has mixed gray and red hair in a collared shirt and blazer and the old woman has wild gray hair sitting in a wheel chair. Its John Sekera’s father, Abraham and grandmother, Ruthemae. John and Rome walk up the steps to them.

John-
There you are. Why wasn’t anybody answering us?

Both stay silent, John’s father briefly turns his head to the side then continues to look out the window.

John-
I’m talking to you father! Grandmamma, what’s going on?

Abraham-
What do you want?

Rome-
Sir, my name is Augustos Rome. I’ll cut right to the chase; we’re trying to gather all the shards of the Jade Crystal…before the Hafflife does. The Zollerans want its power. We know that your family is in possession of a shard.

Abraham-
It’s not here. It’s been gone for decades. You might as well go back to where you came from.

John-
Father, what are you talking about? It’s here, it’s always been here.

Abraham-
Not anymore.

John-
(Sensing something is strange) Father, what’s going on?

Abraham-
Nothing my dear boy.

John-
(To Rome) Something’s wrong. He’s behaving…

Rome-
Mr. Sekera, why don’t you step outside with us? So we can talk in private.

Abraham-
I’m not going anywhere. (Grabs ahold one of the handles on Ruthemae’s wheelchair, grips it tightly, both John and Rome take this as a small sign of aggression.)

John-
Father…

Rome-
Let go of the wheelchair Mr. Sekera.

Ruthemae Sekera looks at John; she tries to use her powers to communicate with John mentally. She tries to say something to him. It’s very faint and John can barely hear it. It sounds like “run”. John turns his head to her, trying to strengthen the mental connection. Abraham can sense something going on. Ruthemae speaks to him mentally again, this time the message comes in loud and clear, “Run!”

John-
Rome!!

Abraham spins around revealing an “F” superimposed on his forehead, indicating that he is under the control of Zuberus and the Faycade Arts. He lets off the blast at John, it hits him in the chest and sends him flying off the balcony and crashing down to the floor below. The explosion can even be heard by Zinagata, who rushes towards it and outside, by both Ryannus and Jessie.

Jessie-
Oh geez, was that a…?

Ryannus-
Yeah it was. Come on, we’re going in.

Ryannus starts running toward the doors with Jessie following right behind. Right when they get up to the steps, Purcell and Scion come busting out through 2 upstairs windows. Both Ryannus and Jessie look up, Purcell comes down on Jessie with an axe handle to the face, sending her off the steps to the ground. Scion throws a blast down at Ryannus; he blocks it but is then hit in the face with a kick from Scion.

Back inside, Rome dematerializes and appears right behind Abraham. He grabs him by the shoulders and slams him back into the wall. He turns to Zinagata.

Rome-
John!! Get your grandmother out!!

John gets back up and jumps up to the top of the staircase. He lifts her up out of the wheelchair and runs with her out of the room.

Zinagata begins to run towards the ballroom where John and Rome are. He is about to rush into the room when a hand busts through the floor and grabs him by the ankle. It then pulls him down through the floor into the basement. When Zinagata looks up he can see Chris Jocu standing over him.

Chris-
Hey man. (Snickers)

Chris then grabs Zinagata’s foot, spins him around and lets him go. The force of it sends him flying through a nearby wall right into the wine cellar. Zinagata goes crashing through a wine rack. He gets back up and is met with a blast from Chris. He deflects it up and away from him. Zinagata then blasts out his aura and flies right back at Chris.

Chris-
(Seeing him coming.) Oh sh--(He charges into him and takes him into a wall.)

Back upstairs Rome goes back at Abraham. Abraham responds by sending a blast into the ground in the ground in front of Rome, then charging at him with a right hand. Rome ducks under and catches Abraham with an elbow as he’s coming back in to attack. He then back kicks Abraham under the jaw to send him flying off the top of the staircase.



John carries Ruthemae Sekera out of the estate through the back door in his arms. He rushes through their garden and past a fountain statue to a steel cellar door sticking out of the ground. It leads to an underground shelter, built to protect important members of the family in events like this. John sets her down, opens up the door, picks her up and walks downstairs.

John-
You’ll be safe down here grandmamma.

Ruthemae-
The Zollerans, they came here, John. They over-powered the family, and poisoned your father’s mind. You have to make sure they don’t recover our shard piece. It’s at the top floor, behind the painting of the great Sekera warrior.

John-
I’ll keep them away from it, grandma. I’ll die before they disrespect this family further!

Stands up and runs out back toward the estate.
