Asking the animals.
If I to animals could talk,
all creatures great and small,
I’d sit with grizzly bear and hawk
beside a waterfall.

If voices in the woods were clear
I would enjoy the talks.
A deep discourse with frog and deer,
a kangaroo and fox.

(Imagination beats the drum,
the animals I choose.
I asked a kangaroo to come,
and he did not refuse.)

I’d ask the elephant how he
likes his amazing trunk;
and then I’d very carefully
get nosy with the skunk.

And to the giraffe I would ask
if he gets a sore throat;
and Mister Raccoon, what a mask
you wear with your brown coat!

Then I would pose to the wee mole
if he likes digging earth;
I'd also ask the tender foal
to tell me of his birth.

If there could be a penguin near
among the verdant green,
I’d ask him of his winter gear
and ocean side cuisine.

I see a tiger, strong and white
(I’m feeling like Tarzan);
please tell me of your cat insight
and what you think of man.
