I do not want to walk in the rain!
This morning I saw a depressing sight
Outside my window, no joyful sunlight.
Monsoonal moisture with its dark gray clouds,
Conspire to cancel my plans for the day.
I hear the thunder grumble and roll
And I know I cannot take a long stroll.

I do not want to walk in the rain!

If I remain indoors, what can I do?
Can I clean out the fireplace flue?
The bookcase is covered in dusty shrouds.
Where did I put the dust mask I bought?
The dishes need washing and the laundry dried.
Can I go in my bedroom and hide
Away from the chores without being caught?
The only thing I want to do is play.

I do not want to walk in the rain!

I will find a sad novel to read,
A romance to make my heart cry and bleed.
Turn off the doorbell and the cell phone, too.
Fix a cup of hot tea and cookies to eat,
Sit down on the couch and raise my sore feet.
Tomorrow I will start my chores anew.

I do not want to walk in the rain!
