Old Hazel’s cat was not black like the twelve other witches’

Her cat was a multi-colored calico

With extra toes

The other witches had teased

And harassed her about

Her choice of feline companion

But she just smiled

Because she knew what they didn’t

Their cats were black and looked Halloweenish

While hers was a familiar

And possessed a great deal of magical powers.

So on Halloween Night

When the other witches flew around with their black cats

Cackling and scaring children

Hazel and hers went searching

For the most promising child

To train

In the ways of the witch.
