Upon the ledge
Once
A mouse of a man
Weakness inked in
Written across his chest
Forever stained
Both black and red
The simplest words
Ones to live by
And ones to die by
Moving through you
What does it mean
Nothing until he’s done
Only then will it become
A message for us
A cryptic display
Of the human spirit
A wielded weapon of truth
No lies can be further lived
No one can again be fooled
Except of course
For the ones
Those terrible few
Always fooling themselves
From this height
He should be afraid
But fear is what he has least
Because of his dire choice
He should be concerned
With what is coming next
But above all he is not
It was he alone
That climbed up here
It was he alone who inked
Those words into his chest
He is committed to dying
And once
For a much longer time
He was committed to living
Relation is not an option
We could not even begin
Sure, without question
Many of us have been
Where it is he stands
But none of us
Have been to where
It is he is about to go
Moving through you
Is what it says
For many of years
After this day
He suspects others won’t know
They just won’t understand
Until of course
The day that they
Find themselves
Back to where it is he is
Unafraid and committed
Willing to do what’s next
Until then
They will play the game
That he will no longer play
He closes his eyes
Draws in a deep breath
And takes a final step
Down he goes
Into what he knows
And none of us don’t
Faith, stronger than any spine
Impervious within any mind
He understands better than any
That the stain will be removed
The mess cleaned up
His death
Will be seen as madness
When madness
Is what it is least of all
Moving through you
Poignant logic from a man
Leaping to both
His own death
And his new beginning…
