Chinchilla Love
(A Rondeau About Squig)
Jessica Marie
I loved my chinchilla Squig, for always
his down and fluffy coat, a smoky gray;
summers we housed him in a basement, cold,
and in the winter near our sweater hold,
always on my chest he'd lay.
I named him Squig one July day,
something silly that surely would pay,
my imagination of fluff and whiskers sold-
I loved my chinchilla Squig for always.
This was all before she took Squig away,
one August afternoon we went to play;
disregarding the rules when told
and squeezed too hard against fur fold,
as he died in my arms in windy sways-
I loved my chinchilla Squig always.
