-Constantinople- by Keaton Foster Constantinople What a hopeful Dashed by time And the follies Of humankind Thus an empire of sin Flesh from within Wickedness and then It changed Many times And then back again Heathenism replaced With a most sacred religion Mongrels turned ministers Malfeasant’s made into Imams Respectable forms of salvation Sweeping right on through Spreading across the ages And empires of chosen kings Yahweh and Allah Jesus and Mohammed All God’s unto themselves To each and every believer There can only ever be one All others are meant to be false All others are heathens And heretics in kind Constantinople An Eden for believers A sacred focal point Of all of human existence For ages upon ages And the wars of many races It stood as a true testament The unspoken nation Of every kind of provocation The only fortress of belief In a wilderness of skepticism Not so much an amazing place But rather a wonderful idea A true example for many other Civilizations to come and go But then one treacherous night As the legend insights A lunar eclipse Marked a sacred passage Thick covers of fog rolled in Wiping away what was real Covering up what was possible The holiest of spirits Again left the sacred city Constantinople Was again cold Naked and afraid Woefully alone Exposed to humankind Total abandonment Thus God’s desertion Divinity was concealed A need was to be created A value was to be emulated Man was driven to the brink They asked Is there a God above Is there one within ourselves Such questions have since remained Many come to know the answer While some of course Simply do not… Constantinople Written by Keaton Foster Copyright © 2014. |
