Heat Tweakers

(Hold it in your hand then put it in your pocket
  so you do not feel the heat.

  good old Downy dryer sheet.)

It was found to work quick and surprisingly well
on a day that was so hot I thought it was Hell
when the sweat on my back flowed like morrow was not
and the sun seared the scene as cool breezes were sought.

There was some serendipity to my cool find
as the heat was about to drive me from my mind
since the fans were just so-so and made me beware
because all they could do was blow very hot air.

Thus the laundry I did and when Levi’s were dried
up the steps they were toted and gently I sighed
for the temperature changed as I got higher up
in the closeness of summer heat set to disrupt.

So I put on my Levi’s and then suddenly
there was less of a hold of the heat over me
even though my green plant on the shelf that I built
had succumbed to the heat in the form of marked wilt.

As I made my way with water to my poor plant
I reached into my pocket and crumpled extant
was a dryer sheet that had stowed safely away
on a really remarkable mid-summer’s day.

When I pulled out the sheet and let go in the trash
all at once rose the heat like a fireworks’ flash
and I felt like the heat of an oven had burst
flowing all over me the heat victim accursed.

Something spoke in my mind with a sagacious beat
so I reached in the wastebasket to get the sheet
and as I picked it up it was like cooling rain
on the whole of my being and even my brain.

Like ice water on brow or brisk breezes at dawn
I’ve discovered a product of which folks are fond
because people that pass by my house have it made
as they buy my cool sheets along with lemonade.
