The other night as I listened to my wife's heart this poem came into my head, fits well.

Upon your chest
An ear is lent
In our shared bed
We lay as fools
Lovers twisted by rules
Each of us has our place
Our role upon this world
You succeed while I fail
I’m happiest for you
I’m saddest for myself
What a terrible place to be
Such is an unshakeable dream
I cannot awaken myself
From the deepest of sleep
Numb I must admit I feel
Indeed
I love you more than before
You love me less evermore
Here I always am
Mumbling auspicious
Wavering’s of greatness
Spoken so low that you
Have no chance at deciphering
All that could be understood
Each syllable spoken
At such a low volume
That not one will ever again
Rise to the word assembled
Each consonant softly whispered
An empty linchpin easily broken
You won’t ever know what I’m saying
Uninterested you indeed seem
Disinterested without question
I have now come to believe
Listen wise
The call of your heart
Sings a subtle song
Life
You are very much alive
Beating the odds
Withstanding the onslaught
Living as one should
But as so few do
I am of course jealous
My own ear is deaf
My own method
Of transduction broken
An unrepairable apparatus
Of beautifully simplistic logic
Form following function
In the highest regard
I am unable to relate to the sounds
Of life in such an amazing array
I know both nothing and everything
Between such knowledge and ignorance
Alone I have always stood
Here
All that I know and understand
Is a brutal personification
Of an overabundance of darkness
I cannot hear myself
I know nothing of my own heart
Does it beat
Because I’m alive
Or it is overtly silent
Because what I doing
Is living least of all
Some important questions
Just can’t be answered
By the will of God
Or the intent of any man
Most of all one like me
I understand all that I know
By the ways of the same God
I understand all that I don’t
The call of your heart
Is all that I have left
All that once belonged
I wish I could hear it
But my one truest love
I fear that I cannot…
