Stars rise oโ€™er the velvet sea. Their light incites a sense of destiny. (Form: Sestina)
Destiny

I watch the stars rise o'er the velvet sea.
Their light incites a sense of destiny.
I hear their distant songs call out to me,
pure in their rhythmical complexity;
an invitation to set my mind free
and reach out to explore infinity.

I smile at the thought of infinity
for it is no more than the endless sea
that first challenged man to be set free,
to imagine the greatness of his destiny.
From simplicity to complexity.
that driving, thriving spirit lives in me.

Andromeda, the maiden, shines above me,
her silver chains reaching infinity,
forever tangled in complexity.
I watch her pale reflection on the sea,
knowing her struggles are her destiny
as she seeks the keys to be set free.

There, Cassiopeia, the Queen, sits free
offering her treasures unto me
to free her daughter from her destiny.
She stares into the dark infinity
of time and space, so like an endless sea,
uncharted in its complexity.

The stars twirl with complexity,
like motes of dust, their movements free
as dancing waves upon the sea.
Imagination captures me;
I glimpse into infinity
and see, faintly, my destiny.

The path to reach my destiny
meanders, aimless in its complexity;
I strain, horizon's end to see but only infinity
lies in the darkness, and yet, I'm free
to find my way, to just be me,
to chart my course across the sea.

The sun rises, its destiny to snuff the stars lying on the sea;
to hide the detailed complexity that lies on the path stretched out for me;
a weaving road to infinity; a path I choose because I'm free.

An entry for Day 18, "Invalid ItemOpen in new Window.
Theme: Space, the galaxies and you
Must be a sestina. Any of the myriad last word patterns acceptable as long as you are consistent in your pattern.
Words to use: dust, snuff, chart, name of a constellation.
Words NOT to use: ANYTHING to do with Star Trek or Star Wars!!! (The word star is fine to use)
Form: The Sestina  Open in new Window. is a difficult form. The Sestina is made up of seven stanzas. The first six stanzas have six lines each ending word falling in a precise mathematical progression, the seventh stanza has only three lines which are a mathematical reflection of the first stanza. This gives a total of 39 lines. See the link - there's more! *Shock*
