A poem about Autumn, written for the "Verdant Poetry Contest"

AUTUMN

People seem to swoon
Over Autumn.
Extolling the virtues of
Fall colours –
Crimson, yellow, copper, bronze.
Rejoicing in the season
Of mellow fruitfulness!
Counting sleeps
‘til Christmas.

I see only death
In Autumn.
Farewell, my summer.
Out comes the fake fur coat,
Sock drawer replenished.
Spindly twigs
Stripped of leaves
Shiver sadly
In the cold, twilight air.
