Chapter 2
The side of Kayden’s slightly tan face now had
a fresh red mark shining on it. Glasses a skew Kayden turned around
slightly surprised to see a familiar face.
Wisps of dark amber hair slightly covered her milky
browns eyes which began to soften in recognition.
“Oh so it was you trying to scoff my paper”
she said in her rough raspy kind of voice. She smiled maliciously at
him out of her pale pink lips waiting for his response.
“How lovely to see you
too Carrie” Kayden responded. He should’ve known it was
her. “Who else did he always happen to run into on a daily
basis in Toronto” he asked himself rhetorically.
They both laughed and she joined him at the table
sitting across from him. Carrie was a life-long friend of Kaydan’s
who coincidently moved to Toronto for college. As Kaydan and Carrie
were now both finished school they were always in the city looking
for work. It was not uncommon for them to often roam and hang around
on the wonderful streets of downtown Toronto together.
Now that Kaydan thought about it he wasn’t
that surprised she smacked him with a newspaper. Carrie could be fun
playful innocent violent or, take my stuff and I’ll actually
kill you violent. “Regardless she was a great best friend to
have” Kaydan thought to himself inwardly smiling.
Carrie attempted to stretch her arms but forgot she
was wearing a leather jacket. Sighing she took off the jacket and
stretched out across the table. “So any interesting articles
in their” she said pretending to look intently at the paper.
“Not like you haven’t read the morning
paper” Kaydan said. Half of Toronto seems to have this morning
he sad raising his eyebrows. I would’ve really liked to finish
the article too if you hadn’t so rudely interrupted my morning
coffee. He said pretending to sound sophisticated shaking his head in
disapproval.”
“I did you a favor it had a shitty ending”
she replied still smiling almost bored. I just wanted to know if you
got to read about the beautiful space women. You know find yourself a
girlfriend it’s been what 10 years now she said sticking her
tongue abruptly. She could make you see stars”. At this Carrie
and Kaydan both broke out laughing.
Kaydan however completely missed this part of the
article. He did begin to wonder now about this “moon women”.
The only thing Carrie did not know was that Kaydan was indeed a big
science fiction nerd. How he managed to keep it from her all
throughout childhood was a miracle to him. He must’ve shown it
on his face because he was loudly awoken from thoughts.
“You don’t honestly believe that crap do
you?” Carrie asked laughing in slight disbelief.
“Well I just don’t see why someone would
go out of their way to…” he started to say.
“Why someone would go out of their way to
report seeing an unidentified air craft and, a mysterious women.
Carrie interrupted
“Well yeah…..” he said quietly,
with a slightly exasperated look on his face.
“There is a damn good journalist who wants to
test their writing skills in the Toronto Star.” She said in her
definite I’m always right tone of voice.
“But the metal…” Kaydan tried
again.
“What is the most popular fiction topic right
now? She asked more to herself. Science fiction aliens or, whomever
is coming to invade us. Someone wrecks their car or a jet crashes
turns into the perfect opportunity for talented writers. Turning it
into a real life science fiction horror seen come true. Everyone’s
only interested to know what that Ballinda girl did to get herself
arrested by the government” Carrie stated firmly.
Kaydan gave up and tried going for an innocent
confused expression.
