At the cafe for my dose of
Crowded afternoon snack
I sip warmth from a coffee cup
The cafe is bright,
Teeming with life
But I'm reeling into the darkness
Creeping all over the place.
I look out, beyond
The fogging glass wall
Behind the trees... then
Pressed close to windowed past
A face resembling mine,
Young for all time,
Wet and catching its breath,
Weeping over its death
I could open a window,
Let in that youngster
But... I am her sepulcher
Born out of the failed
Memory of warmth
Of that rainy morning
In your arms
That brought too much:
Need, pain, loneliness
Too much you, less me.
The thoughts stop. Brightness
And noise in the cafe again. I smile.
The lost girl gushing forth a thought ago
Is defeated one more time.
