Smile

On the outside there's a smile
Just as brilliant as can be
But isn't it just a bit too bright?
Or maybe that's just me

They may not see your suffering
And no one seems to care
No one checks you for the marks
The tell-tale signs of despair

Whether it was you being hurt
You feel helpless and torn
Maybe you did the hurting
Said things with venom and scorn

Words were being said
All of them untrue
The damage done beyond repair
And no one listens to you

You hide yourself away
Try to cry away your pain
When that doesn't work
You succumb to your blade

You emerge with a smile
Just as brilliant as can be
But isn't it a bit too bright?
