April Showers in the Park

“What am I doing here?” she thought. “Where is this leading?”
Angela was so sick and tired of their arguments and how they snapped at one another. Every time they were getting together, she vowed to herself that she was NOT going to get sucked into an argument.
But it was too late; they were already embroiled in an argument and the kicker was that it was just downright ridiculous. She noticed that the sky had begun to darken, and it was only three in the afternoon. He was arguing a point, and she had already forgotten what had started it. She just wanted to go home. She just couldn’t be quiet when he started to put her down. He always seemed to have to say something negative or mean about everything she did or said. So, as he continued to rant, she made the decision to break off their relationship. They really hadn’t known each other all that long anyway. But - she was so attracted to him – she couldn’t remember feeling this intensely about anyone for a long time. She loved his looks; he wasn’t gorgeous but he was handsome and had a nice face, big hazel eyes and a great smile and when they weren’t arguing, she enjoyed their closeness and conversations.
All of a sudden, big rain drops started to fall on the bench they were sitting on, great big drops that almost hurt when they hit your face. They began to run through the park and stopped under a cement overhang on one of the maintenance buildings. The rain started coming down in torrents, actually blowing sideways so that most of the area they were standing in began to get wet. He put his arms around her and pulled her to him and guided her over to the only dry corner.
She couldn’t help it - she blurted out, “Well, at least the rain stopped that stupid argument we were having.”
“It wasn’t stupid! I was just trying to explain to you how I felt. See, I knew this wasn’t going to work, you’re just way out of my league.”
“What does that mean?” Angela countered, as she stepped back away from him.
“Sorry, I didn’t mean to say that.”
“No, tell me what you mean,” she demanded. She was starting to get mad.
“I mean I always feel like I have to explain things to you so you will know that I’m not stupid.”
“STUPID!” She practically shouted. “How on earth did you get that idea?”
“Well, you’re so much smarter than me; you have a college degree, and you know so much about everything. I feel dumb around you, and then I start to get annoyed – mostly at myself - but I can’t seem to help it.”
“Well, when you start arguing with me, it makes me feel like I just want to be far away from you,” she retorted. He looked stricken.
“I don’t want you to be far away from me! I think I’m falling for you.” His eyes were opened wide, and he had a very serious look on his face. He stepped toward her.
She realized they had both been feeling the same strong feelings for each other. She put her arms out and he hugged her to him and kissed the top of her head. All her annoyed feelings went away and were replaced by a sense of how this felt right. Thank goodness for April showers, maybe now they would be on a better path leading to a place they both wanted to be.
